An attorney ad litem is an attorney that’s appointed by the court to represent the child. There’s certain parameters as to when an attorney ad litem is to be appointed, if they are appointed then they will represent the child’s interest. A guardian ad litem on the other hand represents a child’s best interest, which may or may not coincide with the child’s interest.
