The type of punishment you may face, if convicted of a crime in Florida, is determined by the type of offense that you are convicted of. If you’re convicted of a driving offense, you may lose your license. If you’re convicted of first degree murder, you may lose your life. You can also be fined, you can face probation. If you’re charged with a misdemeanor, you can serve up to a year in the county jail. If you’re convicted of a felony, felonies begin at a third degree, which is punishable by a maximum of five years, all the way to capital felonies that are punishable by the death penalty.
