BlueBird Educational Foundation CEO Gets Roasted

Darryl Bey, CEO of the BlueBird Educational Foundation was roasted at the Pelican Yacht Club as part of a fundraising event for BlueBird Educational Foundation. Bluebird is a Fort Pierce non-profit that supports students through scholarships and provides instruments to students in need throughout the Treasure Coast.

Keith Anderson, Cliff Barnes, Anthony Westbury, Michael James and Earl Gordon took turns roasting Bey. “It was a great event,” stated former Board Member T. Charles Shafer. “Everyone had a lot of fun and we were able to raise money for the Foundation.”

BlueBird Educational Foundation was founded in 2008, with a goal of deepening music appreciation and expanding cultural horizons for children and adults in our community. They hold several musical events throughout the year and have brought in well-known artists including the Dominik Farinacci Quartet, an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and big band leader.

“Like several other small non-profits, BlueBird Educational Foundation is relatively unknown in St. Lucie County,” added Shafer. “We’ve been working in the community for the past twelve years, but a lot of people still don’t know about the projects and people we serve. Events like this will help.”

The Board, staff and supporters believe every child who aspires to play a musical instrument should have the opportunity, regardless of their financial situation. The Foundation helps fill that gap.
Shafer was on the Board Member from 2012 until last November. He is a local attorney, who has been defending those accused of crimes since 1986. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Law School. He served as an Assistant Public Defender, prior to opening his own practice in 1991. Currently, he also serves on the Board of Directors for the ARC of St. Lucie County and has been active in Special Olympics and the Exchange Club.
